Cloud as you know it, on an open European foundation
THE CONCEPT
Virtualisation with cloud capabilities on top
At the base, virtual machines run on KVM with distributed Ceph storage. OpenStack adds self-service, tenant management, networking and automated provisioning.
Resources can be administered through the portal, API, CLI and Terraform. That gives you both the familiar VM model and the interfaces expected of a modern cloud platform.
The platform is built on open technologies and standard hardware, with no proprietary virtualisation licence in the foundation.
THE ARCHITECTURE
Three layers from physical infrastructure to self-service
Edora Cloud consists of three integrated layers that together make up the platform’s foundation and user experience.
The bottom layer is the physical infrastructure layer, with compute, storage and networking on dedicated hardware, delivering the raw capacity and redundancy.
Above it sit OpenStack and Edora’s management layer, which turn the infrastructure into cloud resources and handle orchestration, networking, storage and tenant isolation.
At the top is the access layer, where users work through the portal, API, CLI and Terraform against the same underlying platform.
RESOURCES AND SERVICES
The platform extends to what the workload needs
The core platform delivers virtual machines, block storage, networking, tenant management and automated access. Beyond that, relevant platform services can be added.
Virtual machines
KVM-based virtual machines with the agreed combination of CPU, memory, storage and networking.
S3 object storage
S3-compatible object storage can be used for application data, archives and data platforms. Compatibility with your existing applications is validated as part of the solution.
Managed databases
MongoDB can be delivered as a managed service where Edora is also to run the database layer.
PLACEMENT
The same platform, several placement options
The platform and its interfaces are fundamentally the same wherever the dedicated infrastructure is placed. Customer, cloud and datacentre locations can be connected directly through Edora Cloud Connect.
Your own datacentre
The platform is established on dedicated hardware in your facility through EU Cloud in a Box. You provide the agreed datacentre infrastructure, while Edora builds and operates the platform.
With Edora
Capacity is placed in Edora’s own datacentre infrastructure. Edora handles the facility, the infrastructure and the cloud platform.
Dedicated datacentre solution
For larger or specialised requirements, Edora Cloud can form part of a separate datacentre solution. Location, capacity and build model are defined case by case.
PROCUREMENT
Procurement & framework agreements
The actual delivery is assembled from capacity, platform services, connectivity and operations. The acquisition and ownership model for the physical infrastructure depends on the placement and the solution you choose.
In Denmark, public-sector organisations can procure relevant parts of the delivery through the SKI framework agreements Edora is party to. We help clarify the right procurement route for you.
